What causes orange peel during powder coating?

When the surface of a powder coated product lacks a smooth, even appearance, this effect is called orange peel. Orange peel effect has a negative impact on the beauty of the product.


A common cause of orange peel is the application amount of powder during powder coating. Powder coatings have a suggested amount of powder that should be applied. In general if apply significantly more powder than recommends, this maybe causes orange peel because too much powder will not be cured smoothly. Orange peel can also occur if powder is not applied enough.


Using supercorona ring is also effective to prevent the orange peel, if thickness of powder coating film could not be reduced. In addition to how much powder is applied, one thing is must be made sure before powder coating, that powder using proper settings on powder coating gun with a good ground. A good ground ensures the powder to be applied effectively.
